Before that, he worked for KCEN-TV in Waco, Texas as a weekend news reporter/anchor/producer for 2 years. He has worked for WHDH-TV Channel 7 in Boston, Massachusetts as a writer. At this time, he was in his last semester in college (Boston University).

When working at KCEN-TV, Reed reported on many stories such as the explosion at the West Fertilizer plant, the shooting at Fort Hood, the passing of the Texas House Bill 2, and the trial of Nidal Hassan. Besides his job at KCEN-TV, Reed also worked as a teacher of a basic journalism class about writing and reporting at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

In the Summer Olympics in the year 2012, Reed was in London for 2 months as a student reporter for WBZ-TV in Boston, Massachusetts.
