Townsend had high hopes of entertaining audiences nationwide on the theatrical stage or on television when she was growing up in the lovely Centennial State. She attended the Metropolitan State University of Denver and worked as a student reporter and producer for The Met Report, an Emmy Award-winning college broadcast.
Melanie worked in production at KDVR/KWGN in Denver after graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism before obtaining her first on-air job in Texas! She joined KFDX/KJTL in Wichita Falls, Texas, as a morning news anchor in 2017. Townsend would get up at the crack of dawn to inject new life into the morning and noon newscasts, earning her a promotion to primetime news anchor in 2018.
Melanie went on to develop and manage two of the station’s most successful franchises, including an in-depth digital series called Voice for the Voiceless, which focused on racism and sociological concerns in the neighborhood. Townsend is our newest FOX40 Digital Anchor/MMJ, bringing her years of expertise in the news field to the Sacramento, Bay Area.
Mel can be found singing Karaoke, doing wine tasting, checking out the latest farm-to-fork hotspots, or hiking one of the many gorgeous trails in the Bay Area (remember, she’s from Colorado). Mel also enjoys animals, volunteering, and arranging charity events for groups that strive to help others.
