Mayo serves at KATV ABC 7 News as a morning meteorologist, appearing on “Good Morning Arkansas”. She also serves the station as a co-host of “Daybreak”. She started her career in broadcasting in the news department, beginning as an overnight news photographer, and then as a news producer, editor, and reporter. After that, she transitioned to weekend morning news anchor, and then later to meteorologist.
Mayo is part of the NWA – National Weather Association and the AMS – American Meteorological Society. She became an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in the year 2010 and her weather reports earned the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society in the year 2004. In the year 1990, Mayo received the Associated Press “Spot News Reporting” award for her coverage of the floods in downtown Hot Springs. The RTDNA – Radio/Television News Directors Association honored this same coverage with a 1st-place award in a 6-state regional competition.
While on vacation in Florida in October 1995, Mayo experienced Hurricane Opal in the Fort Walton/Destin area. She provided live coverage of the storm damage and evacuation of people. She says that this event sparked her growing interest in weather, which has since become the main thing of her TV career.
