Van Wijk began acting in the year 1989 when he tried out for a part in “Dances with Wolves.” He didn’t get the role, but the tryout inspired his ‘Wolf’ persona. Van Wijk became famous in the 1990s when he played the character “Wolf” in the British TV sports game series Gladiators from 1992 to 1999.
In October 1994, Van Wijk had one game with the Gillingham F.C. reserve crew. He played for 73 minutes in a match against Cambridge United’s reserves before getting injured and leaving the game. He also joined the Gladiators Legends Special, where he participated with Trojan, Hunter, and Ace. After Gladiators, Van Wijk went to New Zealand and started a chain of gyms.
As a bodybuilder, Van Wijk once owned a gym in Hayes in Bromley, London. It was first called Matrix and later changed to “Wolf’s Fitness Centre.” The gym was open until the late ’90s and had equipment for boxers, bodybuilders, and anyone into general fitness. In the year 1987, Van Wijk was picked to be on the cover of “Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior”, Palace Software’s computer game.
Besides acting and working out, Van Wijk is also often seen in Kiwi Cage Fighting and used to take part in championships of the national Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Despite being twice the age of some fighters, he won silver medals in the New Zealand title competition. Van Wijk also manages an indoor play center named “Chipmunks Playground and Cafe”.
