Si-wan gained fame after joining the cast of the highly-rated period drama Moon Embracing the Sun in 2012. Following that success, he starred in the revenge drama Man from the Equator, the sitcom Standby, and the Drama Special Waiting for Love in the same year. In 2013, he achieved critical acclaim and commercial success with the courtroom drama film The Attorney. The same year, he returned to television with two dramas, Triangle and Misaeng: Incomplete Life, earning awards for his performances.
Si-wan continued his success with leading roles in films like A Melody to Remember and One Line. In 2019, he starred in the thriller drama Hell Is Other People. Si-wan’s diverse career includes roles in crime action films, historical melodramas, and romance dramas. In 2023, he held a fan concert and was announced to join the second season of the popular Netflix series Squid Game.

Si-wan started singing when he was in college at Busan National University. He used to attend the Chin Chin Song Festival in Busan and while there, Star Empire noticed him and recruited him to train with them. Si-wan joined a 9-member group called “Children of Empire” and became a trainee there for 3 years. In the year 2009, “Children of Empire” began doing surprise performances all over the nation. On January 7, 2010, they officially started with their EP, Nativity, under the name ZE:A. Si-wan is also part of a sub-unit called ZE:A-Five.

Im Si-wan Volunteer Work
Besides acting and singing, Si-wan is also a philanthropist and has helped many people across the world. On March 4, 2022, Si-wan gave ₩20 M to the Ukrainian Embassy in South Korea to support the Ukrainian people during the Russian invasion. He also paid for Kyiv’s 4-bed dorm for one month (from March 7 to April 4, 2022), to assist war victims in Ukraine. On August 10, 2022, Si-wan donated ₩20 million to assist those affected by the South Korean floods of the year 2022, via the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. Then, on February 8, 2023, Si-wan donated ₩10 M to aid the Turkey–Syria earthquake victims (in the year 2023) by donating via the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.
On July 17, 2023, Si-wan gave ₩30 M to aid individuals affected by the South Korean floods of the year 2023, via the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association. Then, on November 3, 2023, he donated ₩10 M to establish Korea’s 1st Lou Gehrig nursing hospital. Si-wan took part in the “2023 Chuncheon Marathon” in Gangwon-do on the 29th of the previous month, finishing the 10-kilometer course in 45 minutes and 21 seconds. He also supported Sean’s initiative to donate 1,000 won per meter and contributed $10 M to the Seungil Hope Foundation. This donation is intended for the construction of Korea’s first Lou Gehrig care hospital.

Si-wan holds various ambassadorships that showcase his diverse involvement. In the year 2012, he became the Brand Ambassador for Tissot Swatch Group Korea and also took on the role of Honorary Ambassador for the Korea Tourism Organization. Additionally, he served as the Brand Ambassador for Pret-a-Porter Busan (Busan Fashion Week) that same year.
Si-wan extended his ambassadorial role in the year 2013 when he was appointed as the Brand Youth Ambassador for Gyeonggi Province and received the title of Honorary Ambassador for Woosong University of Informatics.
