Griego serves at CBS 4 – KCNC in Denver as a news reporter. This is her 2nd stint at the station, having worked there from May 2005 to March 2012. Before joining CBS 4, she worked for CBS 5 – KPIX San Fransisco as the Morning and Noon Anchor for March 2012 to August 2021.
Michelle joined KPIX 5 as co-anchor of KPIX 5 News This Morning from 4:30 -7 a.m. on weekdays, and at Noon on KPIX 5 News. She also hosted Bay Area Focus, a talk show that airs Sunday mornings on KPIX 5 and KBCW, 44 cables 12, produced locally.
Michelle likes to be at the core of the coverage. While at KPIX, she covered the mass shooting at the Aurora movie theater; the opening of the Bay Bridge’s eastern span, and the Victory parades of the San Francisco Giants World Series. For ten days, she also reported from New Orleans as the San Francisco 49ers went to the Super Bowl.
At the tender age of 11, the Colorado native began her career in journalism, where for almost three years she co-anchored Two Pieces, a KWGN-TV children’s news program. Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nebraska have seen the initiative. Immediately, she knew that journalism was her calling.
Michelle attended the University of Colorado State and Denver Metropolitan State University. Michelle worked for eight years as an online editor, reporter, and anchor at CBS4 in Denver, before moving to the Bay Area. Her favorite live shots include being knee-high in snow or breaking news.
Michelle has always looked up to Christiane Amanpour and Diane Sawyer. In 2014, she was honored with an Emmy for anchoring KPIX 5 at six a.m. Her volunteer work involves serving on the boards of the Latin American Educational Foundation and Adelante Mujer, an organization that promotes higher education and technical careers for Latina high school students.
