Caplan is working for WFLD FOX 32 Chicago, serving as a meteorologist for Good Day Chicago. His first job after college was in Champaign-Urbana, at WCIA. While at WCIA, he reported news before being promoted to weekend and noon weather anchor. He also co-hosted the WCIA’s PM Magazine show.
Caplan made history as one of the very first reporters to secure a one-on-one interview with President Ronald Reagan at the White House. In 1987, he was hired by WTVD in Raleigh-Durham, NC as chief weather anchor. After two years, Caplan was selected to also co-anchor the WTVD’s early evening newscast in addition to his weather duties. Moreover, he covered everything from tornadoes to hurricanes to snowstorms.
In 1994, Caplan came back home to Chicago to work for WLS-TV. After earning his meteorologist credentials, Caplan became the 4 p.m. weekday meteorologist. He is also an adjunct instructor at the College of Lake County, where he teaches photography.
