Dean serves at NBC 7 News as a news anchor/reporter. She anchors the 4 PM and 5 PM newscasts from Monday to Friday. Over the years with NBC 7 San Diego, she has earned several Emmys for reporting on the 2016 riots at the Donald Trump Rally in San Diego, CA, and the 2007 San Diego Firestorms. At the station, she has been responsible for launching an extensive investigation (12 months long) into the exploitation and sex trafficking of kids in San Diego, as well as outside San Diego.
After the investigations, she broadcasts the findings in a 7-episode docu-series. Also, the findings are the basis of “STOLEN,” a multimedia platform of content at ‘NBC 7.com/stolen’. Since August 2020, when Dean launched “STOLEN”, her work there earned the recognition of a National Murrow Award from RTDNA – Radio Television Digital News Association, for “Excellence in Innovation.” The Society of Professional Journalists San Diego chapter has also honored her with 3 awards for her work at “STOLEN”. Additionally, she was awarded a Golden Mike Award, 3 Regional Murrow Awards, Silver and Bronze “Telly” Awards, and 4 Emmy Awards, still for her work there.
Dean has assisted in establishing the KNSD Academy on NBC 7 & Telemundo 20, where she teaches high school youngsters about careers in journalism (specifically television news). She also serves as a regular emcee of galas for several non-profit organizations that provides support to emergency response/preparedness, sex trafficking survivors, and kids. Besides her journalism skills, she is also a skilled motivational speaker.
Dean started her television news career in the year 1998 in Los Angeles, CA, where she worked behind the cameras at FOX 11 News – KTTV. After that, she went to work for WCAX in Burlington, Vermont as a correspondent based in Washington. She worked for KBAK/KBFX-TV in Bakersfield, California for 2 years (2002-2004) as a sa news anchor/reporter before joining NBC 7 News. While there, she won a number of honors from Kern Press Club and AP – the Associated Press.
Dean has an intense love for community, faith, and family.
