While shooting a video in a region destroyed by flooding near downtown Lumberton during Hurricane Florence, Garcia and her photographer heard a cry for help. They then spotted a man waving a t-shirt in the air and called rescue crews who were loading up for the day, helping facilitate the rescue of three men who were stranded in their home. She spent the days after California’s Camp Fire speaking and sharing the stories of Paradise residents who sought refuge at evacuation shelters.

Before working for News 4 Tucson, Garcia served two of the Valley’s top stations in Phoenix for 5 years. In this capacity, she served as a weekend anchor and reporter at Arizona’s Family News 3TV CBS 5 News and was a multimedia journalist and reporter at 12 News KPNX. Before moving to sunny Arizona, Garcia reported in San Diego and was a weekend anchor in Jacksonville, Florida.

Garcia developed a love for storytelling at a young age. While others played four-square during recess, she told ghost stories to her fellow second-grade classmates. That need to ignite emotion and move people with stories continues today. In 2014, she fell in love with the desert’s beauty while reporting for News 4 Tucson.
