Atagül started her acting journey when she was 8 years old and she registered with Erberk Agency, owned by Neşe Erberk in 2005 when she was 13 years old. One month after registration she did her first commercial. Neslihan made her acting debut in 2006 in the film İlk Aşk and she was awarded for her role in the film. She was given a role between 2006 and 2010 in the film Yaprak Dökümü which is based on a novel of the same name. In the years that followed, she made appearances in series such as Hayat Devam Ediyor, Kalbim Seni Seçti, and Canım Babam.
Neslihan became famous in 2012 when she starred in Araf and won the Academy Award for “Best Actress”. The awarding was done at the prestigious Tokyo International Film Festival. Atagül got a leading role as Neriman Solmaz in 2013 in Fatih Harbiye, a romance drama film opposite Kadir Doğulu. Fatih Harbiye premiered on the Fox channel on 31st August 2013 but later moved to Show TV where it ran until 10th December 2014.

Neslihan landed her most beloved in 2015 in Kara Sevda, a melodrama in which she portrayed Nihan Sezin. The series received the first Turkish International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela in 2017. The series was awarded at the Seoul International Drama Awards with the special jury award. Her role in Kara Sevda made her gain popularity and even win four awards. In 2018, she debuted on online streaming platforms with the series Dip opposite İlker Kaleli.
Atagül portrayed Nare in Sefirin Kızı which premiered on 16th December 2019 and ended on 11th May 2021. Her role in this series earned her the “Best Actress” award at the Izmir Artemis International Film Festival. Neslihan however withdrew halfway through the series due to health issues as she suffered from leaky gut syndrome. Atagül is engaged in a new professional project, Hadsiz Magazine.
