From there, he went to work for KAKE-TV, an ABC-affiliated station in Wichita, Kansas, in the year 1990. His position there was weekend sports anchor. After that, he joined KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado, where he served as the morning news anchor.
Palmer is a supporter of organ donation. In March of 2007, he donated a kidney to his friend, Dale Davis. He got the inspiration for donating after he read a story about Alonzo Mourning, transplant recipient, and then-NBA star.

Palmer shared some news about his new assignment at Eyewitness News on his Facebook Page, on December 30, 2019. He was often seen in the morning news alongside Leslie Sykes but no more from the beginning of 2020. He said that the morning show would still have a team of familiar faces, Brandi Hitt, Leslie Sykes, Brianna Ruffalo, and Leslie Lopez. He was however to team up with Jovana Lara to lead a new initiative at ABC7 seeking real solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing Southern California. He and Jovana would be seen on Eyewitness News at 11 a.m.
