Coppola is an East Haven native. He is a founding member of Men against Domestic Violence and, Men Make a Difference. He actively works with non-profitable organizations that automatic external defibrillators to, businesses, schools, and organizations. These non-profitable organizations include; In a Heartbeat, the Jim Calhoun Celebrity Classic, and the Jim Calhoun Celebrity Classic.
He worked at Fox61 in Hartford as a solo anchor for a 2-hour Newscast on Sunday mornings, he also covered some of the state’s top news stories, including 2012 Hurricane Sandy for over 30 years.
In 1976, he graduated from East Haven High School, and in 1980 he graduated from the University of New Haven. He has won the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association nine times, and National Sports Media Association Connecticut Sportscaster of the year. He captured Associated Press awards in 1991 and 1997.
He was instated into the East Haven Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2000. He received Media induction into the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2016.
