Dean works at ABC Columbia/WOLO-TV as an evening anchor. Having served for more than two decades she has resided in several different states, but few have been as welcoming as the great state of South Carolina. She has a host of family members who live across the Midlands and spent many summers there. Her roots run deep in the Midlands, as her Grandmother and Grandfather met, and later graduated from Benedict College.
She was brought up hundreds of miles away in a small town just outside of Hartford, Connecticut. Dean has always had a place in her heart for the South and moved to Virginia. She began her career in Journalism as a Public Relations Assistant for VSU (Go Trojans!), and during college as a Photojournalist for The Progress Index. Dean accepted a position at WRIC TV 8 (ABC) in Richmond, Virginia, during her Junior year and where she caught the television bug.
She later spent the next thirteen years there exploring the many facets of this wonderful world of news. Dean served as an Assignment Desk Manager, General Assignment Reporter, and finally a Fill-in Anchor. She was able to report many National stories during her tenure including the Virginia Tech shootings, the dog fighting trial of NFL Star Michael Vick, the National Boy Scout Jamboree which earned her Associated Press Award for Best Spot News, the DC Sniper case, and the Presidential election of Barack Obama.
In Columbia, she worked at a television station where she reported, produced, hosted a weekly community show, and anchored. Dean is a member of The Columbia Chamber of Commerce, The National Association of Black Journalists, and the American Cancer Society. Additionally, she also serves as the CEO and founder of the Flora Foundation. She began an organization to help young people get money for college after losing a parent to Cancer, as she did.
During her free time, she loves spending time with her family, listening to live music, attending church, and taking part in community events. She is to be a steward of the community and looks forward to reporting the stories that are going to make a difference in the lives of South Carolinians.
