Breen first came to KTVQ in March 2005 as the sports director, anchoring live sportscasts during Q2’s weekday newscasts at 5:30 and 10 p.m. During his career, he has broadcasted local teams and athletes on high school, college, Little League, and the National Finals Rodeo levels. However, he loves sharing hidden gems and personalities that are often missed.
One of his unforgettable stories at KTVQ was the recovery of Melstone cowboy JR Vezain who had a back injury after a horse stomped him at a Texas rodeo four years ago. Closely, he followed Vezain’s journey from near paralysis to walking with the aid of robotics. That feature won him an Emmy nomination and a national Edward R. Murrow award.
Before KTVQ, Breen worked as a sports anchor and reporter at KULR, Billings’ NBC affiliate, for 13 years. Besides sports anchoring, he is an experienced TV play-by-play, sideline reporter, color commentator, and radio broadcaster.
During his career, he has won Emmy nominations and regional and national Edward. R. Murrow awards for excellence in journalism. Additionally, he has won more than awards from the Montana Broadcasters Association including several Sportscaster of the Year awards.
