He covered the 2016 presidential election, then spent two years as a legislative correspondent before returning to the campaign trail to cover the Democratic presidential campaign in 2020.

Prior to joining NPR, Detrow worked as a statehouse reporter for member stations WITF and KQED in Pennsylvania and California. He also covered energy policy for NPR’s StateImpact project, winning a DuPont-Columbia Silver Baton and a national Edward R. Murrow Award in 2013 for his reporting on Pennsylvania’s hydraulic fracturing boom.
