They were first on the air following the May 23, 2014 attacks in Isla Vista that claimed the lives of six people. He reported live on the shore of the south coast after an environmental disaster hit in 2015. He still vividly remembers the sight and smell of 140,000 barrels of crude oil that left a black mark on Refugio Beach.
Over the years, Hennessee and the team have broadcasted many wildfires, giving people the latest briefs to keep them safe. For this, they won an Emmy for the breaking news broadcast of the Thomas Fire as well as a Golden Mike for the live broadcasts of the Loma Fire that devastated TV Hill, endangering KEYT and surrounding homes in 2021.
Some of his favorite moments have come when he connected with people. He along with the KEYT team goes for the “On the Road” to special occasions like the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo, Downtown Fridays, and the Santa Maria Strawberry Festival. He has great fun going out and spotlighting some of the special things one can do on the Central Coast.
Aside from anchoring the evening news on KEYT, Hennessee also works as a contributor to the station’s “Eye on Crime” segment and files feature reports on people who are creating a positive difference in the community.
