He began his journey in broadcast journalism in the United States Navy. During his service, he operated within Navy Broadcasting units stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and La Maddalena, Italy. While stationed in Italy, he also served aboard the U.S.S. Orion (AS-18), a submarine tender stationed in La Maddalena.
During his time in La Maddalena, he was honored with Navy public affairs accolades for his contributions to broadcast news and newspaper reporting. Following his 5 1/2 years in the Navy, he transitioned to a role as a morning anchor and reporter at KWES-TV in his hometown of Midland, Texas, where he worked from 1992 to 1995. He relocated to the Tri Cities area in 1995, where he spent 16 years working at one of the local affiliate stations. Over the span of more than twenty-five years, Stovall found immense satisfaction in keeping the community informed about the latest news and events.
