Growing up, she also used to watch Al Roker on the TODAY show in the mornings. After she finished college, she started her broadcasting career at a station in San Francisco. Then she moved up in her job and worked at TV stations in Colorado and Oregon. She covered almost every type of weather there, like floods, wildfires, and snowstorms. She even chased tornadoes on the Eastern Plains.
Before joining KNBC-TV, Mendiola served at KWGN-TV and KDVR-TV in Denver, Colorado as a meteorologist. Also, she worked as a meteorologist for KTVZ-TV in Oregon and KGO-TV in San Francisco. Throughout her career, she has won several awards for her incredible work. these awards include 3 Golden Mike Awards and 4 Los Angeles Emmy Awards. Other than being on TV, she is also a member of AAJA – the Asian American Journalist Association, and NWA – the National Weather Association.
Mendiola is also passionate about volunteering in the community. She speaks and mentors young meteorologists, encouraging them about the importance of pursuing science and meteorology. When Mendiola isn’t talking about the weather, she likes to help people live healthy lives. Mendiola has had a blood clot in her lungs, but she survived it. In the year 2015, she ran her first 5k marathon to help spread the word about blood clots and how to prevent them. She did this as part of a campaign called “Run For Today” by the TODAY Show.
