Lolita Lopez Breast Cancer | Illness
In April 2013, Lopez was at home watching TV. She felt something strange in her breast while doing a self-exam, and she rushed to the hospital. It turned out to be cancer. Lopez stayed calm and got all the information she needed. She cried a lot but then felt better. Doctors found the cancer early, so it hadn’t spread. She decided to have chemotherapy and then surgery.
Lopez also found out a family secret related to cancer. She started chemotherapy treatments soon after finding out. They made her weak and tired. She decided to shave her head before her hair fell out. Getting a wig made her feel better. Lopez learned to accept help from others, even though she’s used to being independent. She wants to share her story to help others going through similar challenges. She feels lucky to share her story on NBC.
