Shay Stevens, an NPR newscaster, writes and delivers five-minute roundups of national and international news, which are broadcast to 25.5 million listeners each week on more than 790 stations. Stevens began working for NPR as a part-time newscaster for Weekend All Things Considered in 1990, while also working full-time as a news director for WCBM in Baltimore and later as an anchor/reporter for USA Today Sky Radio.

She’s also worked as a stringer for UPI and AP and has done freelance work for CNN. Stevens started her radio career in Sioux City, Iowa, for a short time. She subsequently relocated to Philadelphia, where she worked as a city hall reporter/anchor, assignment editor, and entertainment editor for WFIL-AM; as an anchor for WUSL-FM; and as an anchor/reporter for WCAU-AM, where she also periodically supplied items to CBS radio.

Before returning to Philadelphia to work at WWDB FM, Stevens worked as an anchor and reporter for WILM in Wilmington, Delaware, and WEBR in Buffalo, New York. Shay works at NPR as a correspondent alongside other talented journalists, who include;
