Sylvia Perez is an American journalist who serves FOX 32 News as an anchor of the weekday editions and special segments of Good Day Chicago. She joined the station in October 2016. Previously, she served Chicago’s WLS as an 11 p.m. anchor and medical reporter from 1989 to 2013 with Linda Yu.

Perez is the youngest of five children and an “army brat.” Reporting has always been in Perez’s blood. She credits her childhood as a military “brat,” following her dad around the world, with giving her the skills she needed.
“Asking a lot of questions and getting to know people quickly comes with the territory. You move so often that you have to acquire these traits to make friends and fit in,” she said. Perez knew from the age of ten she wanted to be a reporter.
While watching sportscaster Howard Cosell interview athletes during the Summer Olympics, Perez asked her brother what he had to study to get that job. His answer was “journalism” and from that day forward, her career path was sealed.

After graduating, Perez started her career in 1983. Before joining ABC7, she worked in Houston and Amarillo, Texas. Perez also worked in Oklahoma where she won several awards for her reporting. Her interest in medical reporting came when she worked at KPRC-TV in Houston, where she also became the weekend co-anchor. She still does that while in Chicago.
She first joined ABC 7 in June 1989. On June 20, 2013, she was released from WLS-TV after 24 years with the station because they decided to cancel the 11 am newscast. In September 2016, media critic Robert Feder announced on his blog that Sylvia Perez had been hired to anchor the weekend morning newscasts on WFLD-TV. She also reports for the daily 9 p.m. newscast.
Throughout Perez’s career, she has been recognized for her achievements with multiple awards, including Emmys and the Peter Lisagor award, recognizing the best of Chicago journalism given annually by the Chicago Headline Club.
Perez was also recognized by the office of the Illinois Secretary of State for Excellence in Broadcasting commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month. She is generous with her time supporting several charities in the Chicago area. She has a company named, Sylvia Perez Productions, which specializes in all aspects of event production for non-profits. During her free time, she enjoys gourmet cooking and taking nature hikes on the many trails in and around Chicago.

In March 2016, she put her Hinsdale, Illinois mansion back on the market for $1.95 million dollars, previously selling the property for $2.4 million in 2013. Perez purchased the home in 2006. They sold it in 2018 for about $1.33 million. Built in 1929, the house has a family room with a loft, two living rooms, a sunroom, three fireplaces, a master suite with a spa bath, and hardwood floors. Outside on the property are a grotto, a chlorine-free pool, and a waterfall.
