For three years, Aliyu helped people understand what was happening during the coronavirus pandemic, the protests that followed George Floyd’s killing, and some important sports events. He also made TV shows that talked about problems with the police in Massachusetts, both after and before the year 2020. While working at WNBC, he reported on big news stories, like a fire at Trump Tower, 2 helicopter accidents, many New Year’s Eve parties, and when there were strange packages found all over the city. Aliyu also provided comprehensive reports about the trial of a big drug leader named “El Chapo.”
During his time at Sinclair Broadcast Group, he played a big role in reporting about a sad event where the police shot a 12-year-old boy named Tamir Rice. He was the 1st reporter that Tamir’s mom felt comfortable talking to. He also told the news from the 2016 Republican National Convention.
One of the special moments Aliyu had in Cleveland was when he provided live coverage right after the Cavaliers won the 2016 World Championship. This was a big deal because it ended a long time without the city winning a championship, which was 52 years. During his spare time, he likes to play basketball, do some poetry (performing and writing), practice dance, or travel (he has been to close to 50 states and 4 continents).
