Gilchrist serves at NBC4 – WRC as an anchor for “Today”. As a weekend morning anchor and general assignment reporter, Aaron joined News4 in March 2010. In April 2012, he switched to weekday mornings. Gilchrist continues to provide special updates on News4 broadcasts and hosts the station’s special programs.
Two Emmy awards have recognized him. Before moving to Washington, Aaron spent 11 years with WWBT, NBC’s affiliate there, in his hometown of Richmond. As a desk assistant, he started working there and worked his way up to the morning anchor.
Many of the big events of the last two decades were covered by Aaron’s reporting and anchoring. He covered the Iowa Caucuses in 2016 and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia leading up to the presidential election. He also produced live updates from the 2013 Tampa Republican National Convention. Aaron has also contributed to the senate and government debates in Virginia as a panelist.
Aaron has driven audiences through tropical storms and blizzards, the retirement trip of the space shuttle Discovery to northern Virginia, and the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard during his tenure at the anchor desk in Washington. In Orlando and Las Vegas, he also spent several days reporting on mass shootings in those areas.
Aaron covered Ronald Reagan’s funeral and Barack Obama’s landmark inauguration. In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, he spent several days reporting from the Gulf Coast. He made several visits to Virginia Tech two years later, covering the mass shooting there and its aftermath.
