Before moving to Oklahoma, she was in North Platte, Nebraska, where she served at KNOP-TV as an evening news anchor. At KNOP, she covered everything from the influence of technology on Critical Access Hospitals to a multi-state burglary ring. Also, she covered stand by the family during a tragic crash where 2 teenagers drowned to death in the South Platte River. Before joining KNOP, she was working for WTAP-TV in Parkersburg, West Virginia as a producer and reporter. 

Avery, a proud alumnus of Marietta College, honed her journalism experience by taking part in the Marist in Manhattan program in New York City. She worked as an intern for Live! With Michael and Kelly The Dr. Oz Show. She graduated from the college with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Photojournalism and Broadcasting. She was chosen to work as an intern at The TODAY Show. There, she wore many hats; shadowed reporters, researched stories, logged tapes, helped during live shots, and conducted preliminary interviews.

Avery is a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, as well as the National Broadcasting Society. She has served in the community by volunteering for multiple non-profit organizations including St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Also, she volunteered for the Verizon Telecom Pioneers Sports Jamboree. This is an event where blind children and those who are in wheelchairs can compete on an adapted playing field.
