Amy is one of only a few women in the world to hold the American Meteorological Society’s coveted Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation. She also has Seals of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Amy joined Channel 7’s Eyewitness News Weather Team in 2011 after working with Fox News in Chicago as the Chief Meteorologist.
She previously worked as a meteorologist at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, as a morning meteorologist at KMGH-TV in Denver, and on Portland’s KPTV’s local morning news show “Good Day Oregon.” She has won many Emmy Awards for her work, including “Best Weathercaster,” “Outstanding Host” and for her weather special, “Surviving Severe Weather.”
Amy is an accomplished runner who has run marathons in Colorado, Illinois, Pennsylvania, California, and New York, including several times in the New York City Marathon. She is also a qualified SCUBA diver who has swum with the New Jersey State Aquarium’s dozen or so 300-pound sharks.
She has covered the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and Atlanta and was the first female sideline reporter for Major League Soccer. Amy volunteers her time in her neighborhood, speaking to students about weather and promoting social causes. Freeze has hosted the Miss Illinois/Miss America Pageant in Chicago, as well as the Miles to Fight Melanoma Race and the March of Dimes’ “Dancing with the Stars” competition in Chicago.
