Russ Mitchell is an American fourteen-time Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter who is currently working at WKYC. He joined the WKYC news team on January 16, 2012. He serves as the lead anchor of the 6 pm and 11 pm newscasts and the Managing Editor at WKYC studios in Cleveland, Ohio. Previously, he worked at CBS where he served as an anchor of The Early Show which aired on Saturday, and as the weekend anchor of the CBS Evening News.

St. Louis is his native home. Surprisingly, Just at the age of seventeen, he had already secured his first job as a nighttime switchboard operator at KTVI-TV. He attended the University of Missouri where he graduated. His career in journalism began in Kansas City where he worked at KMBC. Shortly after, he had greater opportunities in terms of work as larger stations began to follow him. Additionally, he relocated to New York where he worked at CBS as the co-anchor of Up to the Minute a CBS overnight News broadcast.
He was named as the correspondent for Eye-to-Eye alongside Connie Chung in 1993. He was also assigned to the CBS Washington bureau in 1995. Later on, he did serve as a co-anchor of CBS News Saturday Morning in July of 1997, whereby he traveled as a reporter for the CBS Evening News alongside Dan Rather and 48 Hours. In addition, he interviewed then-President Laurent Kabila in the Democratic Republic of Congo, covered the war in Bosnia, and reported from India, The Marshall Islands, Indonesia, and Cuba.
On September 11, 2001, he was on the anchor desk with Dan Rather reporting from Ground Zero and other parts of Manhattan on the days and the weeks that followed. Furthermore, he anchored the live CBS Special Report most recently on the capture and death of Osama Bin Laden on May 1, 2011.
In his career as a journalist, he has been awarded both local and National Emmy awards for his outstanding work. He has also received other awards such as; the New York Association of Black Journalists Award for Best Documentary, the Press Club of St. Louis 18th Annual Media Person of the Year Award, the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for his coverage of the Elian Gonzales story, and the National Association of Black Journalists Award. In addition, The University of Missouri School of Journalism honored him with the Missouri Honor Medal in 2007, which is very important to him even though it is not well known.
