The central Illinois native began his journalism career while he was a senior in college serving WSILTV in Carterville, Illinois. He started as an associate producer, then a morning show photographer, and eventually a reporter when he graduated college.
At the age of 17, Merano enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard. There, he was an in-flight refueler, “boom operator,” and deployed over a dozen times in the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. He still works in the Air National Guard as a Lieutenant.
Following 6 years at WSIL and a promotion to evening anchor, Merano relocated to St. Louis where he served KSDK as an anchor and reporter for 3 years. During his career, he has won multiple regional Emmy nominations and won one while he was working in St. Louis.
A big Cardinal, Blues, Bears, and Bulls fan, Merano has broadcasted the 2019 Blues Stanley Cup Championship, several Cardinal pennant chases, and the 2018 PGA Championship. He is thrilled to be back in central Illinois working with Jennifer Roscoe, Jessica Kunz, Kevin Lighty, and his former college classmate and coworker Bret Beherns.
