In addition to this, Chad manages the weather staff schedules and Assists the weather staff with forecast decision support and ways to improve on-air performance. As the freelance meteorologist at WOAY-TV, he produced live and recorded weather forecasts and Updated weather content on social media platforms.
In addition to his work at WOAY-TV, Chad has been working as a Monthly Weather Columnist at The Monroe Watchman since July 2023. While here, his role involves producing a monthly weather outlook column specifically for West Virginia’s Greenbrier Valley.

Before joining WTOP, Merrill served as the Senior Meteorologist for AEM from August 2008 to March 2023. His roles at AEM included Producing client-specific forecasts and producing hyper-local energy alerts that identify increased heating or cooling demands for clients. In addition to this, he produced content for WeatherBug.com, led summer and winter seasonal outlooks, and Quality-control data from our array of weather sensors.
Before joining WTOP, he served as the weekend meteorologist in Hagerstown, Maryland at WHAG-TV(now WDVM). Merrill kickstarted his career as a fill-in weather and news producer in 2003 at WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Chad developed his weather forecasting interest at a young age because of the changes in weather conditions in the mountains of western Maryland where he was brought up. He recalls the 1993 and January 1996 blizzard and also the 1998 Frostburg, Maryland, tornado.
