While Huddleston was in college, she had a chance to work as an anchor, producer, and reporter for WVUA-TV. Upon graduation, she now accepted a full-time position there.

In Tuscaloosa, Huddleston took coverage of a number of major stories such as the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak, the trial of convicted Devin Moore (Fayette County cop killer), and Hurricanes Katrina and Ivan. She also covered the hiring of Nick Saban, Alabama football coach.

Throughout her career, she has won a number of top honors such as Best Sports Feature, Best News Anchor, Best Sports Story, and Best Spot News Story, from the Associated Press. On August 19, 2020, Huddleston apologized to Harlem Globetrotter’s Maxwell Pearce. She was apologizing for throwing a banana to Maxwell on “Good Day Alabama,” where Maxwell was promoting the Globetrotters by performing an assortment of basketball tricks on air. At the program, Mickey Ferguson (Meteorologist) and Clare Huddleston (News Anchor) began throwing fruits at Maxwell Pearce in an inexplicable manner as he was performing tricks. Two tangerines were thrown and eventually a banana. 

After the segment, Maxwell Pearce said that throwing fruit at him diminishes the Naismith Hall of Fame legacy of the Harlem Globetrotters. He added that throwing a banana at a person of the black race in form of entertainment shows an unacceptable lack of awareness. However, there were rumors that Maxwell Pearce demanded an apology from Huddleston but she refused to do so. Shannon Isbell (WBRC’s news director) went apologized to Maxwell Pearce on her behalf. All these happened on January 6, 2020. Huddleston however came out by herself and apologized to him in tears.
