Gilardi also fills in for the Chief when needed and tag-teams with the Chief, when there is severe weather. She has over one and a half decades of experience as a broadcast meteorologist. Before joining WBRC, she served at WOWT-TV in Omaha, Nebraska. She spent 2 years and 4 months there (September 2011 – December 2013) as a Meteorologist.
At WOWT, she reported on various topics such as tropical systems, ice storms, tornado outbreaks, blizzards, flash freezes, floods, arctic outbreaks, and heat waves. Gilardi has worked for Fairbanks Museum And Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vermont as a Meteorologist for 4 months.
Gilardi has always been passionate about the weather, mainly severe weather. She began storm chasing in the year 2008, where she served at a storm chasing company, Extreme Chase Tours. Gilardi is a weather geek who has a way of communicating the weather. She relates it to daily life in an easy-to-understand and fun way. She got fascinated after the 1985 Hurricane Gloria. Since then, she has always had an obsession with tracking hurricanes and always wanted to be in the midst of severe weather. When she was young, her parents used to take her to the beach to see the waves from a tropical system and drive her around in 6 inches of snow.
An animal and nature lover, Gilardi enjoys loving on her 8 cats and 3 dogs. She strongly supports the local animal rescues and has adopted 3 cats from a local Birmingham rescue.
