Dan Smith Career
Dan is no stranger to the ever-changing weather of the Great Lakes after growing up in Windsor, Ontario, nor Toledo itself, producing many fond childhood memories at the zoo. He would see extreme weather coverage at the Detroit stations just across the border early in his life, and he was intrigued by seeing his city on the map right under the worst of the storm. He was persuaded of his career choice for a few short years after that.
In 2013, Dan received his meteorology degree from Florida Tech, where he was bitten in his first semester by both the acting and singing bug. At KLST in San Angelo, Texas, where he worked as chief meteorologist for 5 years covering everything from floods to tornadoes to baseball-sized hail, he credits the time with his ability to mix science and storytelling on-air. In April of 2019, he got his Television Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. If he doesn’t keep an eye on the horizon, he’s likely to have both eyes glued to a hockey game (Go Leafs Go!) or going to Cedar Point for a spin on the latest and greatest screaming machines.
