He started as a news anchor and morning meteorologist at the station and he held those roles for 1 year and 1 month. Before joining KION-TV, Cianca worked for KJCT News 8 in Grand Junction, Colorado as a chief meteorologist (most recent), morning meteorologist, feature reporter, news anchor, multi-media Journalist, and weekend meteorologist, for 3 years and 2 months (December 2010 – January 2014).
Cianca’s fascination with the weather started when he was young. He used to watch the Weather Channel, and he got really interested in the weather because he experienced some really cold weather and big thunderstorms when he was little. These events made him want to learn more about the weather. Watching videos of storms and the movie “Twister” made him want to be a meteorologist when he grew up.
While in college, Cianca worked for Skyview Weather as a Junior Meteorologist for nearly half a year (from May 2008 to September 2008). After finishing college, he got his first full-time job at IPS Meteostar. Later, he started predicting and weathercasting on TV for Your Weather Network, which is part of IPS Meteostar. From there, he went to work at KJCT, then finally at KION-TV. Cianca is affiliated with the NWA – National Weather Association and the AMS – American Meteorological Society, and he holds their seals of approval.
