There he reported on medical waste being dumped on the Jersey shores. From there, he went to a CBS affiliate, WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he served as a New Jersey correspondent. There, he did a live report from Saudi Arabia on Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. While at WCAU, he was nominated for 3 local Emmy Awards for investigative, enterprise and magazine-format reporting.
Schratwieser started his journalism career in print media (newspaper). This was immediately after his graduation from college. He got his first job as a statehouse correspondent and investigative reporter for the News Tribune in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He spent 5 years there. While in the print media, he was studying TV production which led to his work with New Jersey Network.
Schratwieser has also worked in government, where he worked for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office as Director of Communications and Public Affairs. Later on, he served as Press Secretary for Governor Jim Florio. Schratwieser also worked for Attorney General Deborah Poritz as Director of Communications.
Throughout his career, he has received several awards and honors. He was named Best Of Philadelphia in the year 2004 by Philadelphia Magazine. He also holds a Headliners Award, as well as numerous reporting awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association and the Associated Press.
