Asman was hired as an assistant editor at Prospect in 1978. The following year, he was named executive editor of the magazine. George Gilder hired Asman in 1980 to launch an economic journal at the Manhattan Institute. One year after the news channel’s inception, Asman left The Wall Street Journal to join Fox News in 1997. He has interviewed many politicians, news-makers, and business leaders. Asman began his career on The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, where he covered Latin America for 12 years before becoming editorial features editor. During the volatile 1980s in Latin America, he wrote over 100 articles and received several Inter-American Press Association awards for his writings on Cuba and Mexico, as well as for editing a weekly column on Latin America.
During this time, Asman also edited The Wall Street Journal’s “Manager’s Journal,” a business management column. Two collections of these columns were published, the most recent of which was Doubleday’s The Wall Street Journal On Management: Adding Value Through Synergy. Asman was named editorial features editor at a time when the Journal’s editorial page was breaking Whitewater stories. Asman still writes for The Wall Street Journal and other publications, including one about his Marine stepson and another about his wife’s stroke and their experiences with British Health Care.
