Gehn joined Northern Illinois University in August 2010 when he finished his high school education. In December 2013, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism.
During college, he served WQAD as an intern and production assistant. There, he wrote scripts and shot and edited videos. He worked at NIU Media Services as a production assistant. After graduating college, he landed a job at WNDU in South Beth, Indiana where he worked as a morning photographer and editor. Quickly, he transistioned to sports and was promoted to weekend sports anchor for 3 years.
In South Bend, Gehn provided coverage for many Notre Dame football games and reported from the sidelines on the field at Notre Dame Stadium for WNDUâs Countdown to Kickoff. He also broadcasted many NCAA Tournaments with the Irish menâs and womenâs basketball teams, including Elite 8 appearances for the men and the 2018 memorable National Championship run for the women. He also broadcasted Notre Dame hockey in the Frozen Four in 2017.
