Gardner serves at WRAL as a meteorologist. Over the years with WRAL, she has covered every hurricane that has happened in the United States. The first was Hurricane Bonnie in 1998. She recalls the hotel losing control and the roof shingles flying off. Even inside, we were a little drenched, but we were good. Hurricane Floyd struck the following year. We stayed the night on a floor of an office building near Charleston. On our way back to Raleigh, she recalls how difficult it was to find a lane that wasn’t flooded.
She’s lived in several different parts of the world and is thrilled to be back here. People in North Carolina are friendly. It is beautiful and diverse. It makes a great playground. You will spend one-weekend paddleboarding on the beach and the next weekend snowboarding in the mountains.
Mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, hiking, snowboarding, and reading are some of her favorite activities. She is a member of the Junior League of Raleigh and the Carolina Canoe Club, as well as a board member for the Raleigh Parks and Recreation System Plan.
