Ancken serves at News 6 as a news reporter and anchor. He anchors the 9 and 11 PM newscasts on Sundays and Saturdays. Before joining News 6, he worked for WWSB-TV – ABC 7 in Sarasota, Florida as a news reporter for 2 years and 10 months.

Prior to that, he served at WMBC-TV 63 News in Newton, New Jersey as a news reporter for 2 years. There he reported on the metro New York City area, and it was there that he learned to anchor, shoot, report, produce, and edit. 

He joined WMKG a few days after the miserable loss of the space shuttle Columbia. Over the years with News 6, he has traveled across the globe, from the Great Wall of China to the temples of Thailand to the Incan ruins of Macchu Picchu in Peru to the Alps of Switzerland to the castles of Germany to the outback of Australia.

He has reported on almost every shuttle launch at Kennedy Space Center, such as the final Space Shuttle launch and landing in the year 2011 and the Return to Flight mission of Shuttle Discovery in the year 2005.

Ancken is among the journalists around the globe to sit in the commander’s seat on the flight deck of Space Shuttle Atlantis. He has reported on the next phase of the American space program: the design, construction, and test flight of the deep-space Orion capsule. Ancken was embedded with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds in the year 2014, where he was in the back seat of an F-16.

He covered tornadoes, hurricanes, and brush fires, in Central Florida, as well as numerous national stories such as George W. Bush’s (President) visit to Sarasota for what was supposed to be a routine trip on the 9/11 attack on September 11, 2001.

Ancken began his journalism career as an intern at a CBS affiliate, WBNG-TV in Binghamton, New York. He holds multiple awards and recognitions for his work as an anchor and reporter, including 2 Emmy Awards in the prestigious and coveted “On-Camera Talent”. He was honored as among the best and most trusted journalists in the southeastern U.S.

Ancken has also earned multiple Emmy nominations for his investigative work and storytelling. Additionally, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press (AP) have recognized him with many best-overall and first-place awards. 

During his leisure, he likes skiing – he competed in and taught barefoot skiing, slalom skiing, show skiing, and wakeboarding. Also, he enjoys playing tennis and playing the keyboard, and calls himself a self-proclaimed handyman. Ancken holds a brown belt in Okinawan GoJu-Ryu Karate and he loves volunteering for charity causes.

Some of the charities and organizations he has volunteered for are the Ronald McDonald House, Runway to Hope, and Seminole County Schools’ Families in Transition.
