Harvey Leonard (born – Harvey Leonard Moskowitz) is an American retired Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist who recently worked at WCVB in Boston, Massachusetts as a chief meteorologist. He worked there from 2002 to May 2022. He has also worked for WHDH-TV, WNAC-TV, WNEV-TV, and WROR-FM.

Leonard is recognized as the first meteorologist to accurately forecast the effects and strength of the well-known 1978 Blizzard. Around the end of the year 2010, he added his experience to the book, Extreme New England Weather, where he shared his account of the 1978 blizzard in the Northeastern US. In the year 2019, Leonard was named the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association (MBA) Broadcaster of the Year, a prestigious accolade given annually to a leader in radio or television who demonstrates exceptional commitment to their community and unwavering dedication to the advancement of broadcasting.
Leonard was also added to the 2018 Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame, a recognition given to people for their exceptional contributions and remarkable accomplishments to the broadcasting field in Massachusetts. He received the esteemed Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement, during the 2016 Boston/New England Emmys. He was chosen as the “Best Weatherperson” of the year 2015 by Boston Magazine in the People’s Choice section, marking the 5th instance in his career that the magazine’s readers honored him with this distinction.
Leonard was once chosen as the “favorite forecaster” in the city by the Improper Bostonian. Additionally, Leonard has won 4 New England Emmys for his excellent work in television weather broadcasting. In the year 2003, NATAS Boston/NE recognized him with the Silver Circle Award for his outstanding contributions to broadcasting over more than 25 years. Leonard is also a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and was honored with their distinguished Outstanding Service Award for Broadcast Meteorologists, recognizing and celebrating his achievements on a national scale.

Leonard retired from his role as the leader of StormTeam 5 in May 2022, after a meteorology career spanning 5 decades, including over 4 and a half decades predicting weather in New England and 20 years at WCVB. He then moved into his emeritus position. In this new role, Leonard remains dedicated to the community by sharing important information periodically through contributions to StormTeam 5 coverage and by taking part in speaking events within the community.

Leonard loves volunteering for various charitable causes or just being active in the community, during his leisure time. He is actively involved in many local groups, including the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. He takes part in yearly fundraisers to help find a cure and offer support and services to people and families dealing with the disease.
He’s been a master of ceremonies for the Boston Prostate Cancer Walk, and he has spent a number of years as a co-host for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event. Leonard has shown his backing for the Boston Medical Center, the primary teaching partner for the Boston University School of Medicine. He has shared his insights at educational events organized by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and is a strong supporter of the Blue Hill Weather Observatory. Leonard has also been an honored guest speaker at Harvard Business School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
