Because of her love for environmental sustainability, her documentary “TRASHY: A Zero Waste Film”, has won awards including the 2022 Chesapeake Film Festival for Best Environmental Documentary. Before she formed Buttonwood Films LLC, she worked at FOX 35 Orlando, WOFL-TV as the news anchor from October 2017 to March 2021. While at FOX 35 Orlando, WOFL-TV, Gustafson won an EMMY award in 2020 for covering Black Lives Matter protests.

Previously, Heather served as the weekend news anchor at KIII 3NEWS in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States from 2014 to 2017. Before joining KIII 3NEWS, she worked for WVNS-TV as a Multimedia journalist from 2013 to 2014. Prior to joining WVNS-TV, Heather worked at Fox News from 2012 to 2013 as a guest booker.
