During her time at WJXX, she has received recognition for her work including several Associated Press awards, 26 Emmys, a Peabody, and several national Edward R. Murrow awards.
Blaylock served as the first person in the region to win a Peabody Award. She won the award for her work in the creation of Buddy Check 12 which has rescued many lives of First Coast women and several men. Since 2002, the program has endorsed self-exams and mammograms so that women.
Despite the effectiveness of mammograms, almost half of all women don’t get occasional mammograms, a circumstance Blaylock wanted to change. Thus, she collaborated with Baptist Health and MD Anderson, raising over a million dollars to buy the mobile mammography unit named “Buddy Bus.” In turn, she has inspired many cities across the United States to emulate Buddy Check 12 and women to catch breast cancer early.
With an ardent belief in community work, Blaylock helped create a free dental clinic on Timuquana Road via her “Apple Project” in 2014. Further, she was the first reporter on WJXX to concentrate on K9s For Warriors which trains service dogs to help control their PTSD. As per her findings, the group has achieved a 99% success rate at preventing suicides.
Blaylock has been to multiple other countries through her journalism work. She reported on the earthquakes in Haiti. Her report inspired donations for earthquake victims with over a hundred amputees getting new prosthetic legs. Further, she provided live coverage from the Beaches of Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. She was invited to display the documentary on D-Day to dozens of students by school districts.
