Lee Southwick Education

While pursuing her undergraduate studies, she was involved with the American Meteorological Society, Gamma Theta Upsilon Honor Society, Order of Omega Honor Society, Chi Omega Fraternity, and Big Heart Gators. She then joined Mississippi State University where she received her Master of Science degree in Geoscience-Applied Meteorology.

Southwick is working for WJXX serving as a meteorologist for First Coast News. She is thrilled to return home and serve the station she grew up watching. She kickstarted her broadcast career while still in college where she broadcasted hurricanes Matthew, Irma and Hermine.
Southwick relocated to Montgomery, Alabama, where she broadcasted many tropical systems, harsh wind events, tornadoes, and the frequent winter weather for WSFA. She received a Murrow Award with her team for their broadcast of a fatal EF-4 tornado.
After Montgomery, Southwick joined WDSU in New Orleans where she picked up Emmys for her team’s broadcast of Hurricane Ida and an EF-3 tornado. Now, she is excited to return home and bring her experience to the First Coast.
