He flies over New York longer than any television airborne reporter. When ABC7NY partnered with Metro Networks and Eyewitness News in the launching of News Copter 7, Del Giorno was selected to be responsible for leading the effort. At Metro Networks, he also works as a studio announcer and producer and has held the roles since the partnership with WABC. 

Del Giorno specializes in the live reporting of breaking news. As a camera operator and airborne reporter, Del Giorno has covered numerous news events in the region live-on-scene, such as; the 2003 Blackout, TWA Flight 800, the search for JFK Jr., Tropical Storm Floyd flooding, the 1995 Long Island Wildfires, and Egypt Air 990. News Copter 7 was airborne on September 11, 2001, as there were unfolding tragic events at the World Trade Center.

His coverage started as the 2nd plane flew past his helicopter over New York Harbor and ended over 5 hours later, and the reports and images were seen global-wide. Some parts of Del Giorno’s coverage are featured within the September 11 gallery in Washington D.C. at the Newseum. Del Giorno’s recollections of the gallery have been included with the nation’s leading journalists in 2 books; Covering Catastrophe (Bonus Books, 2002) and Running Toward Danger (Rowan and Littlefield, 2002).
