Kathy Sabine Injury / Surgery
On December 1, 2023, Sabine announced on her Instagram Page that after returning home, she experienced a serious accident—a significant fall while tending to her horses. Apparently, all of her hamstring muscles and tendons got torn from the bone, leading her to undergo surgery the next day. It’s been a week since the incident, and she expressed gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the people at #AdventHealthParker, including the emergency room and hospital staff during her admission. She also thanked the professionals at the University of Colorado Medicine Steadman Hawkins Denver Clinic, specifically acknowledging Dr. Martin Boublik and Dr. James Genuario. Sabine, who already considers herself a bit clumsy, mentioned that she’ll be using a leg brace and crutches for the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Sabine underwent an unexpected turn in her journey when her dermatologist, during what seemed like a routine visit, detected what appeared to be basal cell carcinoma on her face. The diagnosis led to two surgeries, lasting four hours, to address the slow-growing cancer. The reconstruction involved borrowing cartilage from her ear to replace the missing cartilage on her nose. Sabine, despite facing challenges and emotional moments, shared her story to build a sense of community and raise awareness about skin cancer prevention.
Her vulnerability inspired others, and the attention drawn to skin cancer prevention is referred to as the “Kathy Sabine effect.” While scars remain, they serve as a reminder of overcoming a challenging experience. Sabine, having recovered from the surgeries, emphasizes the importance of early detection and hopes her story encourages others to prioritize their skin health.
