Charles serves at NBC4 as the weeknight anchor. He worked at a station in Atlanta before joining NBC4. Before that he spent seven years as a morning anchor in Greensboro, N.C. Kerry has also worked in Shreveport, LA, Cincinnati, and here in Columbus as a reporter and/or editor.
At an early age, Kerry’s interest in broadcasting began. He became a Kids’ Sundae host while attending Crestview Middle School. On WCBE 90.5FM, the weekly radio program aired. He was also a young anchor and reporter for the Columbus Kids News Network, which aired Saturday mornings.
Kerry has covered all manner of stories in his years away from home. After Hurricane Dorian, he accompanied two spectators to the Bahamas to check on their families and childhood homes. A Presidential debate and three national Democratic conventions have been covered by Kerry.
At the Charleston church shootings on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom and at Super Bowl LIII, he anchored special coverage live on the scene. Kerry interviewed a number of entertainment icons during the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
Kerry believes in the community’s giving back. He helped launch an ongoing initiative to give children free haircuts, lunches, lessons in hygiene, and access to seminars in financial literacy. Via collaborations with Phi Beta Sigma, as well as the National Association of Black Journalists, he is active in service initiatives.
Kerry, an Emmy Award recipient, is a member of the MLK College of Ministers and Laity Morehouse College (2018). The honorary college recognizes professionals who use their platform in part to change others’ lives. He was named a Communication Alumni Champion by the University of Cincinnati in 2014. When coming to his education, he attended Columbus City Schools and graduated from high school at Linden-McKinley. He went on to receive a degree from the University of Cincinnati in communication.
