Marshall serves at KPRC-TV as a member of the KPRC Local 2 Severe Weather Team and host of the weekly topical news show, Houston Newsmakers. He joined the station as a weekday anchor in May 1999. Marshall stepped in as a news anchor when Hurricane Andrew ravaged most of Florida in 1992.

He did so well that he was given a permanent role by the station. He moved to Houston as an anchor on Channel 2 in 1999 but was taken off the air in 2005, much to his fans’ dismay. This is such a subjective organization that you can get replaced when new management comes in and they don’t like you or your look. I used to say that I was the best non-TV anchor.

At the Mayor’s History Makers’ Award Luncheon at the Post Oak Hotel in Uptown Houston, just before the pandemic struck, Marshall was recognized for his own activism. Marshall, who attended the gathering, was shocked when the luncheon was attended by his 40-year-old wife, Debbie Marshall, and his daughter, Danielle Marshall of Louisville, Ky. They conferred a special award on Marshall.

Throughout his career, he has been supportive of many charitable organizations and now serves as the chairman of the board of the Greater Houston YMCA, which is an extension of everything I grew up doing, being able to touch the community.” Marshall landed his first job at the CBS affiliate in Phoenix as a senior in college as a sportscaster. He spent the next 18 years at stations in Detroit; Hartford, Conn.; and Miami, covering sports.
