Ojeda serves at KPRC2 in Houston, TX as a Weekday Morning Anchor/Reporter. She began as a weekend morning anchor at KPRC. In June 2022, she left the station but she returned on November 14, 2022, with a new role, a weekday morning news co-anchor, alongside Owen Conflenti.
Sofia brings to the Valenti School of Communication more than 15 years of television news experience. She worked as a news anchor and sports reporter for the school’s TV station during her college years. Ojeda landed her first job in sports at WABC News in New York City as a college junior.
She helped cover national sports events and interviewed players from Major League Baseball and the NFL. Sofia also helped to produce the sports segment for newscasts at night. She earned a second internship at WABC-TV in the news department the following summer, where she helped cover breaking news reports and collaborated with reporters on stage during live news segments.
Sofia began her career as a News Desk Assistant back in New York City at WABC News after graduation. At News 12 The Bronx, she later landed a freelance reporter job. She moved to Binghamton, New York, and worked for WIVT/WBGH NewsChannel 34 for three years as a news reporter and evening anchor. She subsequently served as a news reporter and morning anchor at WETM in Elmira, New York. Until the Houston transplant.
In 2015, she worked for five years as a Reporter and Weekend Anchor at WNEP in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She later became the host of the 7 pm, 10 pm, and 11 pm newscasts in the evening. She was granted an Emmy for Hurricane Harvey coverage in 2018. The valiant actions of ordinary citizens in the Houston area to help save people from the rising floodwaters were captured in her piece titled “Hurricane Harvey’s Unsung Heroes.”
When coming to her education, she graduated with a degree in Communication from The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ. Sofia brings to the Valenti School of Communication a wealth of expertise and information, helping students learn more about the TV news industry through first-hand accounts of breaking news coverage, news output, appearance on-air, and social media.
