He credits his fascination with weather to the devasting F5 tornado that struck Jarrell, Austin when he was 7 years and form then he searched for weather books in the library, watched Mother Nature documentaries on The Discovery Channel, and was stuck to the TV watching Jim Spencer and his severe weather coverage whenever it struck not knowing he would one day work along with him at KXAN.
He began his broadcasting career at Nexstar’s sister station KLBK in Lubbock, Texas in 2019 as the weekend forecaster and he was able to forecast for winter weather, severe weather, dust storms, and even chased by a tornado.
When coming to his education, he pursued his first degree in communication from The University of Texas at San Antonio, which was after he graduated from Stony Point High School in Round Rock. He attained his second degree in meteorology from Mississippi State University, where he also attended its online meteorology program and graduated in May 2021.
He is back home doing what he knows and loves best hoping to inspire someone else to pursue their dreams. Peña enjoys eating at all the wonderful restaurants Austin is known for, running the trails, and hitting up the lakes.
