Wurtz’s dream of becoming a journalist has been with her for a long time, evident in VHS tapes and her ability to still sing the jingle for her kids’ news program, named Kids News. After studying Broadcast Journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she began her reporting career in her hometown of Omaha at KTPM.
Spending three years there, she then headed south to Tulsa, where the majority of her career unfolded at NewsChannel 8. Beginning as a multi-media journalist, she swiftly climbed the ranks to become an Investigative Journalist within a year. Over the next five years, she covered several stories in Oklahoma, ranging from unsolved murders to major flooding events.
She even played a role in making ‘Revenge Porn’ illegal in Oklahoma through a series of stories. Throughout her time there, she proudly received over 50 journalism awards, including three Regional Edward R. Murrow awards for writing and feature reporting, along with one Heartland Emmy for feature reporting.
In May of 2021, she joined Queen City News, and the journey has been incredible. Her favorite aspect of this job is connecting with people and sharing their stories, making her eager to dive into work every single morning.
