Prior to Laven joining KIRO 7 team, she worked at various places that included Kansas, Ohio, 6News in Lawrence, WCMH in Columbus, WKOW in Madison, and also in Wisconsin. She was in the key swing states for the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections during her stay in the Midwest. Laven later on September 11 went to New York City where she reported on the terrorist attacks, and also on Heartland AIDS Ride where she biked 560 miles from Minneapolis to Chicago for six days.
