Before joining WCVB, she worked with the New England Revolution (NBC Sports Boston) broadcast crew as a sideline reporter for 5 years (2017 – 2022). She also worked as the rinkside reporter for the Boston Bruins broadcast team on NESN between the years 2013 and 2008. The Boston Bruins achieved remarkable success during her time, making it to the Stanley Cup Final twice and clinching a historic championship victory in the year 2011.

Funayama’s sports coverage has extended to the global stage through her involvement with NBC’s latest Olympic Games broadcasts. She covered the Beijing Winter Olympics in the year 2022 and the Tokyo Olympics in the year 2020.
